This is a decently deep dive into archetypes and the western fascination with "falling in romantic love." Question: if "falling in love" is a medieval idea, where do we place things like the "Song of Solomon" which uses the language of a love poem--language very familiar to anyone who's read any love poem written at any point in history--which is ancient but seems to hint that falling in love may be a more ancient phenomenon that the 13th or 14th century. The PHRASE "fall in love" may be a 13th century term, but the feelings must certainly be older if literature is anything to go by. No?
Great question Darryl! Be on the lookout for my soon-to-be-released video essay that dives into the history of romantic love and where it comes from in the first place. ;)
