Apeshit
stop trying to be chosen.
Apeshit
I want to tell you something tender, but I don’t want to be a burden. I've been told I was a burden all my life. Lay them down, give em to Jesus the preacher said, by which he meant my sins. But the way I love is not a sin, and my arrival into this world was ushered in by the great green Earth herself. She brought us all here, and no, that doesn’t make me special, or unique, or chosen. It makes me beautiful, yes, but not chosen. You've all really got to stop trying to be chosen. It's redundant and exhausting. You spend all your time trying to prove you're supposed to be here; obviously you're supposed to be here. Where else are you supposed to be, babe? Mars? Don't let Elon fool you. You’ve received a precious gift, a once in a billion chance of an opportunity to live on a planet full of wonders and sing the song of life back to itself. Can't you see that? I hope one day you will. I hope one day you’ll be able to see that this is it, and it’s enough. I was not built to be in a perpetual struggle sesh for salvation, and I do not consent to how the tentacular arms of kings from bygone eras reach me through distant time. All my ancestors, all my relations, murmur inside me. Well, Peace. Be still. King James, of Biblical lore, be still. Here you are after all this time still moping about in the underworld. You haven’t made it over to the other side yet, huh babe? For god’s sakes, be still. The Yoruba say I must feed all my ancestors so they obtain safe passage. But James, you’re still here roaming about in all these heads of state, and all the riffraff of 16th century England who searched for better lives and new places to put their trauma are still giving my fellow American neighbors the shakes. Won’t you sit still, babe? We’re entitled to our own context, you know? We're entitled to our own messiness, and if you keep this up, we the living are gonna go apeshit.
Thank you for reading my poetry! One of the things I really enjoy in addition to writing poetry is providing spiritual counseling to clients. If this is something you’re interested in, you can book a call with me here.
